Warren to Obama: Remove SEC Chair White Over Lack of Commitment to Disclosure
In a letter to President Obama, Senator Elizabeth Warren calls for him to remove Mary Jo White, the head of the SEC, over her failure to move forward with the corporate political spending disclosure rule and her lack of commitment to increased disclosure for investors.
The move comes just weeks before Congress returns to Washington for final negotiations on the omnibus spending deal to fund the government in 2017. Warren and fellow Congressional Democrats have committed to removing the rider attached to the budget bill that prevents the SEC from finalizing a rule that would require public companies to disclose their political spending.
With Friday’s letter, Senator Warren is continuing her commitment to fighting for the over 1 million Americans who have commented on the disclosure rule-making petition calling for increased transparency around corporate political activity.
